Venus transit 2012

A once in a lifetime celestial event is slated to occur on June 5/6, the Venus transit of 2012, which marks a perfect alignment of Venus, Earth and the Sun.   This phenomenon where Venus appears to move across the Sun, occurs in pairs, eight years apart, most recently in 2004 & now 2012.  But the next event won’t occur for more than a hundred years, in 2117.   For mere mortals it is a spectacular opportunity to watch this extraordinary eclipse, but for scientists it is a fantastic opportunity to look for exoplanets.
